A Way of Being

Carl Rogers is the father of Client Centered Therapy, also known as Rogerian Therapy. This breakthrough technique revolutionized psychotherapy and placed it in the hands of the patient, with the therapist acting more as a guide. Instead of telling the patient what to do and how to solve their problems outright, as in traditional Jungian and Freudian therapy, the Rogerian therapist allow the client to come to their own conclusions. The Client Centered Therapy interview techniques show up in all kinds of therapeutic situations. This book is Rogers’ story of how he came to discover this new technique. His trajectory is non traditional and he is very open about the struggles that he endured and eventually overcame to develop this new approach. This is a fascinating autobiography by one of the modern giants of clinical psychology. It is a must read for anyone interested in that field.
