Imagine you move into a dope new apartment with ridiculously reasonable rent and cool neighbors. Perhaps the rooms in this apartment are all different, and just a bit off. At first there are just little oddities, but soon it becomes apparent that something big is up with the apartment building. This is the situation in which Nate finds himself. He can’t let go of the nagging feeling that there is something really strange going on and he starts to investigate, following electrical wires, looking under the wallpaper, breaking into locked rooms, the usual stuff one does when curious about a new living situation. Nate and his new friends uncover stranger and stranger features in the building, till it seems that the fate of the world could be tied up in the workings of this building. Add in a religious fanatic, an ex-CIA agent, and a neighbor who sun bathes nude on the roof and soon the wheels start to come off. Part mystery, part science fiction, part love story, part horror, this is a well told tale and an exciting read that kept me entertained page after page. The characters are exceptionally well written. This was the first Peter Clines book that I read and I’ve read everything of his as a result of that first experience.
